News & Reviews

  • Chris Thile, who will take over for Garrison Keillor as the new host of the beloved public radio program A Prairie Home Companion this fall, has announced a few of the musicians who will join him as the show's house band, along with pianist Rich Dworsky. Among them are two of Thile's fellow Punch Brothers: Chris Eldridge on guitar and Paul Kowert on bass. You can watch Thile give a snapshot of the house band in the video from the show here. Thile will host the new season of A Prairie Home Companion beginning on October 15.

  • Punch Brothers launch an eight-date tour of Japan and Australia on Wednesday. The tour begins with a three-night, multi-set residency at Blue Note Tokyo, followed by a full five-city run in Australia, including stops at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Center in Brisbane, Adelaide International Guitar Festival, City Recital Hall in Sydney, and Melbourne Recital Centre.

  • About This Album

Nonesuch Records releases Punch Brothers’ five-song EP, Ahoy!, on CD and digitally on November 13, 2012; the 10" vinyl edition follows on April 16, 2013. Recorded during the Nashville sessions for their critically acclaimed 2012 album Who’s Feeling Young Now?, these tracks also were produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Modest Mouse). The Los Angeles Times said Who’s Feeling Young Now?’s “rich and evocative tracks capture a white-hot musical mind coming into his own and collaborating with stellar peers,” and Rolling Stone said, “The acoustic framework dazzles—wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity.”

This EP includes songs by Josh Ritter (“Another New World”), Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (“Down Along the Dixie Line”), Punch Brothers (“Squirrel of Possibility”), and Mclusky (“Icarus Smicarus”), along with one traditional tune, arranged by Punch Brothers (“Moonshiner”).
