About this Album
Roxbury Recordings and Nonesuch Records continues its Gershwin series with the first complete recording of Oh, Kay!, one of George and Ira’s best-loved musicals. The all-star cast is headed by two-time Grammy Award-winner Dawn Upshaw in the title role, and features Kurt Ollmann, Susan Lucci, Fritz Weaver, Patrick Cassidy, Adam Arkin, and Robert Westenberg.
The recording is produced by Tommy Krasker, president of Roxbury Recordings, the company founded in 1989 by the late Mrs. Ira Gershwin to preserve the stage works of the Gershwin brothers; the restoration of the score, which includes such Gershwin gems as “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Clap Yo’ Hands,” and “Do-Do-Do”—as well as several numbers unheard in over 60 years—was supervised by Krasker and associate producer Evan Ross, with new arrangements provided by orchestrator Russell Warner. Eric Stern, conducts the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
