This disc, noted the New York Times, “borrows sampling-and-rhythm innovations from hip-hop,” garnering a Best Contemporary Jazz Performance Grammy. Keyboardist Lyle Mays says the sessions prompted the most back-and-forth collaborating “since the early days of the group.”
