Rhiannon Giddens and multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell were the guests on WNYC's Soundcheck. They discussed and performed music from Giddens' 2017 album, Freedom Highway, which she co-produced with Powell in his Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, studio, songs from an in-progress theater work, and more. Giddens and Powell perform three consecutive nights of sold-out shows at the Irish Arts Center in New York City this weekend, following Giddens performance with Lara Downes at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Wednesday. She has still more music-making in New York in the coming weeks, joinining the Soundtrack '63 event at the Apollo on February 24 and the Tibet House benefit concert at Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass, Stephin Merritt, and others on March 3. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
