    Congratulations to the cast and crew of Spike Lee's film of David Byrne's American Utopia, which has been nominated for six Emmy Awards: Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded); Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special; Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special; Outstanding Music Direction; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special; and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Special. Winners will be announced on Sunday, September 19, just two days after David Byrne's American Utopia returns to Broadway at the St. James Theatre.

    Emmylou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter came together to pay tribute to Kennedy Center Honoree Joan Baez, performing a medley of "Diamonds & Rust," "God Is God," and "We Shall Overcome," at the 43rd annual Kennedy Center Honors, which aired on CBS last night.     "When Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney first teamed up two decades ago, it was their love of the Mississippi blues that brought them together," says CBS This Morning's Anthony Mason, who spoke with The Black Keys on the show. "Their latest album, Delta Kream ... is a tribute to those blues artists that they have long studied. Auerbach and Carney say The Black Keys would not exist without them."     Lake Street Dive was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform "Same Old News," from the album, Obviously; you can watch the performance here. As Lake Street Dive's June concerts in upstate New York and New Haven will be Mike "McDuck" Olson's last shows with the band, these special dates will stream live via Mandolin. The band also has several shows this summer, including newly announced dates at SummerStage in NYC and Ravinia outside Chicago.

    The Black Keys celebrated the release of their new album, Delta Kream, with two TV performances: on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, they played "Crawling Kingsnake," plus a web exclusive of R. L. Burnside's "Going Down South," from Mississippi at Jimmy Duck Holmes’ Blue Front Café, the oldest active juke joint in America; on Later... with Jools Holland, they performed "Going Down South" from Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, where they recorded the album. The performances feature Kenny Brown and Eric Deaton, long-time members of the bands of blues legends including Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. You can watch them here.

    HBO has released the official trailer for David Byrne’s American Utopia, which will debut October 17 at 8pm ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max. You can watch it here. The special event, directed by Spike Lee, presents a one-of-a-kind, dynamic film that gives audiences access to Byrne’s critically-acclaimed Broadway show that played to sold-out, record-breaking audiences. The filmed version was recorded during its late 2019 to early 2020 run at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre in New York City.
