Videos: Randy Newman Performs "Losing You" on "Jimmy Fallon," Plus "Short People" in Web Exclusive
Randy Newman was the musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. He performed "Losing You," off his latest Nonesuch release, Songbook Vol. 2, which Fallon calls "a beautiful record." Prefix says the new album's "reinterpretations of his classic works offer a chance to hear his material with fresh ears," and the Late Night "performance demonstrates Newman’s famous way with words, but it also shows what an affecting singer he can be." Video: k.d. lang, Siss Boom Bang Perform "I Confess" and "Sugar Buzz" on "Jimmy Kimmel"; BBC Calls Album "Instantly Striking"
k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang performed two songs from their new album, Sing it Loud, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week: "I Confess" and "Sugar Buzz." Watch them here. Also this week, lang appeared on The Monocle Weekly. The BBC says the album is "instantly striking," with songs that are "rich, masterful and seductive." The LA Times, reviewing last weekend's Stagecoach festival, describes lang as "wondrous," and her "performance provided an eminently satisfying conclusion."

James Farm, A "Force With Which to Be Reckoned" (All About Jazz), Launches New Website
James Farm, the collaborative band featuring Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman, and Eric Harland, released its self-titled Nonesuch debut last week. Now the group has launched a new website, jamesfarmmusic.com, with songs from the new album, photos, a free download, and more on the project. All About Jazz says the album "positions this über-quartet of established and rising stars as a clear force with which to be reckoned." Jazzwise gives it four stars, saying it "draws out a rich melodic seam of group inventiveness." The Revivalist says the band sets "a new bar for themselves and the genre of Jazz as it continues to evolve.” The world tour begins next week.

With a week to go before the May 3 release of Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy's Grá agus Bás, you can now listen to the album in its entirety till release day on npr.org as an NPR First Listen. The title piece "is full of sounds and textures that are at once haunting and exhilarating," says NPR, with a performance by Irish singer Iarla O’Lionáird that creates "one of the best and most satisfying listening experiences of the year so far." Dawn Upshaw's performance of Dennehy's "ravishing song cycle" That the Night Come "shows off her tremendous range."

Video: Chris Thile & Michael Daves Perform "My Little Girl in Tennessee"
As noted earlier this week in the Nonesuch Journal, Chris Thile and Michael Daves, whose debut duo album, Sleep with One Eye Open, is due out May 10, have launched a new web site about the project. The site launched with two videos, including the first in a series of performance videos captured live at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City. Now comes the release of the latest video in the series: Thile and Daves performing Lester Flatt's "My Little Girl in Tennesse." Watch it here.

Chris Thile and Michael Daves Unveil New Website
Chris Thile and Michael Daves' upcoming release, Sleep with One Eye Open, is still three weeks away, but you can learn more about the album now at the newly launched thiledaves.com. This debut from mandolin virtuoso Thile and guitar-maven Daves was recorded live to tape in at Jack White’s Third Man studio in Nashville and features 16 traditional bluegrass tunes by legends like The Monroe Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, Jimmy Martin, and Flatt & Scruggs. The new site features tour and album info, as well as two videos: a discussion between Thile and Daves about Sleep with One Eye Open, and a live performance of the title track.

The Black Keys, Nominated for Three Billboard Music Awards, Are On Tour; Coachella Performance to Be Webcast Live
The Black Keys have been nominated for three Billboard Music Awards: Top Alternative Artist and Top Rock Album and Top Alternative Album for their album Brothers. The guys are back on the road, performing at the Mesa Amphitheatre tonight. They play the first of several upcoming festival headlining appearances at Coachella tomorrow, which will be webcast live on YouTube. Additional upcoming performances include headlining sets at The Hangout Festival, Summerfest, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands. Video: Emmylou Harris's "Goodnight Old World" Premieres on CMT
Emmylou Harris's new album, Hard Bargain, is due out on Nonesuch April 26, less than two weeks away. A deluxe edition includes a DVD featuring six performances interspersed with interviews. The video for "Goodnight Old World," from the deluxe edition of the album, received its exclusive world premiere on CMT this morning. You can watch the video, directed by Jack Spencer, here.

Hear James Farm's Self-Titled Debut Album in Its Entirety as NPR First Listen
James Farm, the self-titled debut album from the collaborative band featuring saxophonist Joshua Redman, pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland, is due out on Nonesuch on April 26. NPR is streaming the album in full as an NPR First Listen till then. "It's a bit like four of the best in the business just called a 'session' one day, but instead of standards, they each brought in their own music," says NPR. "And this band's labor has clearly proven fruitful."
