Amadou & Mariam's new album, Folila, is an Editors' Pick in the Washington Post, which dubs it the "best place to complete a degree in world music." The album track "Baro," featuring French singer Bertrand Cantat, has been named Today's Top Tune at KCRW, which says Amadou & Mariam "remain true to their roots. The husband and wife team prove that melding popular and traditional music only creates a richer tapestry." The duo will tour North America this summer.

Amadou & Mariam performed songs from their new album, Folila—which Relix calls "a funky, intricate and richly textured record"—in A Room for London, a one-bedroom riverboat lodged atop the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, last Wednesday as part of the Sounds from a Room series. Amadou & Mariam will tour North America this summer for the first time since 2009, stopping at festivals including Lollapalooza, Central Park SummerStage, Outside Lands, and Osheaga, in addition to headlining theaters and clubs. On the tour, Amadou & Mariam will perform songs from Folila, the duo’s critically acclaimed new album.

The schedule for the 2012 season of Central Park SummerStage free concerts has been announced, and among the performers taking to the stage in the heart of New York City's Central Park this summer are Amadou & Mariam, on August 4, and Carolina Chocolate Drops, on August 11. Theophilus London, a contributor on Amadou & Mariam's recently released new album, Folila, joins the Malian duo for their SummerStage concert; Buckwheat Zydeco and Abigail Washburn join Carolina Chocolate Drops for theirs.

Amadou & Mariam, whose new album, Folila, was released in the US last week, is the subject of a feature article in the Sunday New York Times. Even with contributions from Santigold, TV on the Radio, Nick Zinner, Jake Shears, Theophilus London, and more, Folila remains very much an Amadou & Mariam album. "[Amadou] Bagayoko’s driving guitar riffs push the music along, giving it shape, and [Mariam] Doumbia’s vocal lines," says the Times, "ride above the complex rhythms, threading the beat with hypnotic melodies." The duo will be coming to North America this summer, including a newly announced Salt Lake City show with Andrew Bird.

The Black Keys will be headlining the 2012 Lollapalooza festival, which runs from August 3 to 5 in Chicago's Grant Park. Their fellow headliners include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, and Jack White. Also performing are Amadou & Mariam, whose new album, Folila, is out in the US this week. The Black Keys headline Coachella this week and next then launch the next leg of their North American arena tour with special guests Arctic Monkeys.

Folila, Amadou & Mariam's first studio album since 2009's acclaimed Welcome to Mali, is due out in the US next week, and is streaming in full all this week as an NPR First Listen. The album features contributions by Santigold, TV on the Radio, Nick Zinner, Theophilus London, Bassekou Kouyate, and others. "The result is richly textured," says NPR. The Daily Telegraph gives the album five stars. The Independent says the album shows "how adeptly Amadou & Mariam straddle both local and global, with a truly 'world' music." The Sunday Times of London says the collaborations "all serve the song and all are there only to enhance the unfathomably brilliant guitar work of Amadou and the effortlessly beautiful voice of Mariam."

Amadou & Mariam's new album, Folila, is due out in the US on April 10. The album's opening track, "Dougou Badia," featuring Santigold, premiered on Pitchfork earlier this year. Today, Pitchfork has premiered the video for another album track, "Wily Kataso," featuring another stellar collaboration, this time with TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe.
