    Congratulations to Jac Holzman, the founder of Nonesuch Records and its former parent company Elektra Records, who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 and receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award. “We are pleased to welcome these artists and executives into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” said Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and CEO Joel Peresman. “They truly represent the variety of people that have defined and continue to influence music and the business of Rock and Roll.”

    Charlie Gillett, the BBC Radio 3 and BBC World Service presenter, has died, after a long illness, at the age of 68. Gillett was an ardent and longtime champion of many Nonesuch artists, helping to bring world music performers like Youssou N'Dour and Rokia Traoré to a wider audience. Traoré will appear on the BBC World Service program The Strand tonight to remember Gillett and reflect on his legacy.

    David Drew, Music Publisher, Advocate for Composer Henryk Górecki, Dies at 78

    David Drew, the British writer, editor, recording producer, and music publisher, has died at the age of 78. As a board member and the head of the contemporary music department at Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishers, Drew was instrumental in developing the relationship between Nonesuch and Polish composer Henryk Górecki, a close friend of his, and was involved in the now-famous Nonesuch recording of Górecki's Third Symphony, for which he wrote the liner note. Nonesuch President Bob Hurwitz shares a page from his personal diary on the day of the recording session.

    Michael Steinberg, Music Writer and Frequent Nonesuch Contributor, Dies at 80

    Michael Steinberg, the music critic, author, frequent contributor of essays to Nonesuch recordings, and greatly respected colleague, died on Sunday, July 26, at hospice in Edina, Minnesota, at the age of 80. The Boston Globe, where Steinberg was classical music critic from 1964 to 1976, quotes composer John Adams's recent memoir: "Michael’s ability to render, in beautiful and uncluttered English prose, complex and subtle musical issues set the gold standard for how one communicates about music in words."
