In a new album review, the BBC is already looking forward to the next collaboration, writing of Lonely Avenue: "An affecting and intelligent record: the pair shouldn’t shy away from a sequel."

After describing Folds as "a consistently enthralling songwriter," the BBC's Andrew Mueller suggests that Hornby's lyrics fit well into the American singer-songwriter's style. "The scenarios are Folds’ familiar palette of wry character sketches and sharply observed domestic dramas," says the reviewer, "and the vernacular is deliberately American English."

Mueller cites among the album's "gorgeous" moments the song "Belinda," which he describes as "a sumptuous ballad with a beautifully observed lyric," and "the joyously rueful shuffle 'From Above.'"
