Björk's "Biophilia" Featured in NPR's "All Songs Considered" Fall Preview: "So Glad There's a Björk in This World"

Björk's forthcoming album, Biophilia, which is due out from One Little Indian / Nonesuch Records on October 11, is featured in the latest episode of NPR's All Songs Considered, the show's Fall Music Preview, out today. The episode takes a look at, and listen to, a selection of the "great new music" due out in the next few months, with the show's contributors gathered "to talk about some of the releases they're most looking forward to coming out this fall."

All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen offers Björk's latest single, "Moon," to the Fall Preview mix. “Moon” was released last week as a single and as a special feature of the Biophilia App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, available through In-App Purchase. Both are available exclusively at iTunes and the App Store.

"There's no one that makes music like this," says Boilen after playing the track. "I'm so glad that there is a Björk in this world."

"That's exactly what I was going to say," concurs producer Robin Hilton. "I'm so glad she's here."

NPR music critic Ann Powers adds: "She's the perfect one to make an interactive app, too, because she's so cutting edge."

"This is going to be wonderfully unusual, whatever she does," Boilen concludes. "We're always just so glad to hear her."

Listen to the entire episode and listen to the track "Moon," at npr.org.

Björk’s "Moon" app is a song and music sequencer inspired by similarities between cycles in music and cycles of the moon and tides. It also contains an animation, a scrolling music notation and an essay exploring Björk’s ideas about cycles in music and nature. You can now take a look inside the app in the video below:

The Biophilia album may be pre-ordered in North America on CD and vinyl in the Nonesuch Store now, with high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s of the album included and available to download starting on release day, October 11. Available now in the Nonesuch Store is The Crystalline Series of four releases featuring variations on music from Biophilia.
