Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil kicked off a US tour featuring music from their new album, Dois Amigos, Um Século de Música: Multishow Live, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. "What a pleasure it is to watch two masters at work," exclaims the Los Angeles Times music critic Mikael Wood of the "deeply satisfying concert." The two artists used "gorgeous melodies and propulsive rhythms to put across profound ideas," performing songs from their "superb" new album. Congratulations to Caetano Veloso, who has won the 2014 Latin Grammy Award for Best Brazilian Song for "A Bossa Nova É Foda." The song is on his new release in Brazil, Multishow Ao Vivo Caetano Veloso Abraçaço, and appeared earlier on his latest studio album, Abraçaço, released this year in North America on Nonesuch Records. This is Veloso's 11th Latin Grammy Award, following last year's win for Best Singer-Songwriter Album for the South American release of Abraçaço. Caetano Veloso and many other celebrated Brazilian musicians, inspired to protect the rainforest of their native Brazil from further destruction, came together in Rio de Janeiro’s Floresta da Tijuca to create a music video and original composition in celebration of today, Earth Day 2014. The project supports the Rainforest Alliance, which works in partnership with Brazilian nonprofit Imaflora—as well as farmers, forest communities and cattle ranchers—to protect Brazil’s magnificent and ecologically fragile natural heritage.
