    Luminato Line-Up Includes Free Sets from Bombino, Amadou & Mariam, Laurie Anderson, Carolina Chocolate Drops

    The line-up for the 2013 Luminato Festival in Toronto has been announced, and included among this year’s performers are Bombino, Amadou & Mariam, Laurie Anderson, and Carolina Chocolate Drops. All of these artists will give free concerts in David Pecaut Square at the Hub of the Festival, which runs from June 14 to 23. Among the Luminato Festival’s other highlights will be a multi-artist, two-night tribute to Joni Mitchell at Massey Hall.

    Carolina Chocolate Drops Launch US Spring Tour

    Carolina Chocolate Drops, whom Paul Krugman recently featured briefly in his New York Times Friday Night Music column, launch a months-long spring tour of the United States with a performance at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia, tonight. The extensive, nationwide tour includes shows in New York, Boston, Charlotte, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago, and more, as well as sets at festival like DelFest and ROMP.

    Nonesuch Artists Earn 14 Grammy Nominations, Including Five for The Black Keys

    Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, announced last night by The Recording Academy: The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach, Amadou & Mariam, Björk, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Ry Cooder, Dr. John, Brad Mehldau, and Pat Metheny. Together, these artists have garnered an astounding 14 nominations, including a remarkable five nominations for The Black Keys' latest album, El Camino. You can hear music from all the nominated albums on the new Nonesuch Radio channel "2012 Grammy Nominees."

    Carolina Chocolate Drops Launch European Tour

    Carolina Chocolate Drops, who gave a pair of rapturously received sold-out shows in Glasgow and London at the start of the year, are bringing their exhilarating live show back to the UK and to Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany as part of a European tour that kicks off with shows in Galway, Dublin, and London and closes out at the end of the month with three special shows in Germany with label mates Punch Brothers.

    Carolina Chocolate Drops, who resume their tour at the Rhythm & Roots Festival in Rhode Island on September 1, are featured on Concrete Country, CMT's celebration of roots music. The band hit the streets of Nashville to perform three songs for the set, opening with a traditional tune, followed by "Country Girl," off their new album, Leaving Eden, and "Your Baby Ain't Sweet Like Mine," off their Grammy Award–winning Nonesuch debut album, Genuine Negro Jig.     Watch: Carolina Chocolate Drops Perform 60-Second Take on "Country Girl" for MTV Hive's "Stop/Watch"

    Carolina Chocolate Drops performed a new take of their song "Country Girl" for MTV Hive's Stop/Watch, in which artists are challenged to complete a song in 60 seconds. On this take, the band's "country shuffle has a sharper twang and a steel-soul," says MTV, "with singer Rhiannon Giddens showing new dimensions of her voice as she roars through the first verse of the original." Watch it here. Carolina Chocolate Drops are in for two days of music-making at the Winnipeg Folk Festival this weekend.

    Carolina Chocolate Drops' tour brought the band to the Mystic Theater in Petaluma, California, this spring. While there, the band sat down backstage with PBS's Sound Tracks: Quick Hits to discuss their new album, Leaving Eden, the history of the band, and the music they champion. Band mates Dom Flemons and Rhiannon Giddens gave an exclusive backstage performance. Watch both videos plus two songs from the stage here.     Carolina Chocolate Drops recently stopped by USA Today's StudioA to perform a three-song set featuring music from their new album, Leaving Eden, and their Grammy-winning Nonesuch debut, Genuine Negro Jig. The set opens with "Your Baby Ain't Sweet Like Mine," off the earlier album, followed by "Country Girl" and "Riro's House," both from the new album.     Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile Nominated for Americana Awards

    Congratulations to Carolina Chocolate Drops and Punch Brothers, who have both been nominated for Duo/Group of the Year in the 2012 Americana Honors & Awards, presented by the Americana Music Association. Punch Brothers' own Chris Thile has also been nominated as Instrumentalist of the Year. The awards ceremony will take place at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium on September 12, as part of the Americana Music Festival.
