Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers, and The Low Anthem have joined celebrated Irish band The Chieftains to mark that group's 50th anniversary with a new album, Voice of Ages. The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, finds The Chieftains performing with these three Nonesuch artists as well as Bon Iver, The Civil Wars, The Decemberists, and others. The New York Times calls it "an album of collaborations with some of the hottest young folk, country, bluegrass, rockabilly and indie-rock talents on both sides of the Atlantic." The Low Anthem will be The Chieftains' special guests on stage at Carnegie Hall on St. Patrick's Day.

Three bands familiar to Nonesuch Journal readers—Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers, and The Low Anthem—have joined celebrated Irish band The Chieftains to mark that group's 50th anniversary with the release of a new album, Voice of Ages. The album, produced by T Bone Burnett and released today on Concord Records, includes The Chieftains' collaborations with a number of artists whose work they have influence, including these three groups of Nonesuch artists, Bon Iver, The Civil Wars, The Decemberists, and others. Carolina Chocolate Drops join on "Pretty Little Girl," The Low Anthem on "School Days Over," and Punch Brothers on two tracks: "The Lark in the Clear Air / Olam Punch" and "The Frost Is All Over."

The Low Anthem, who are currently touring Canada with City and Colour, will be joining The Chieftains on stage in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, as special guests for the culminating concert of its 50th Anniversary Tour. A limited number of tickets may be available via carnegiehall.org. The video for "School Days Over," featuring The Low Anthem, recently premiered in the Los Angeles Times music blog; you can watch it at latimes.com.

The Chieftains founder Paddy Moloney recently spoke with the New York Times about what the Times' James C. McKinley Jr. calls "an album of collaborations with some of the hottest young folk, country, bluegrass, rockabilly and indie-rock talents on both sides of the Atlantic." You can read what Moloney has to say at nytimes.com.

You can listen to Voice of Ages at thechieftains.com; the album is the Deal of the Day in the Amazon MP3 store, where it's just $3.99 today only.
