Listen: Chris Thile & Michael Daves Perform NPR "Tiny Desk Concert"

As Chris Thile and Michael Daves gear up to perform live at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado this Friday, NPR has posted a Tiny Desk Concert featuring the mandolin-and-guitar duo performing songs off their debut album, Sleep with One Eye Open, recently released on Nonesuch. You can listen to the complete performance below.

Sleep with One Eye Open, recorded live to tape over four days at Jack White’s Third Man studio in Nashville, includes 16 traditional tunes by bluegrass legends like The Monroe Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, Jimmy Martin, and Flatt & Scruggs. The Tiny Desk Concert includes six songs off the album—the title track by Lester Flatt, Howard & Hart's "It Takes One to Know One," and the traditional tunes "Rabbit in the Log," "Bury Me Beneath the Willow," "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms," "Billy in the Lowground."

"What stands out between these two musicians when they play traditional music," says NPR's Bob Boilen, "is the level of extremity they achieve. This is small-town music with New York City intensity."

Listen to the complete concert here and watch a video of the performance at npr.org.

To pick up a copy of the album, head to the Nonesuch Store, where orders include high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s of the album plus the bonus download "Sophronie" at checkout. For more on Thile and Daves upcoming live performances, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Olivia Chaney's new album, Shelter, is out now on Nonesuch. Produced by Thomas Bartlett, the album is eight original songs plus Chaney's takes on songs by Purcell and the Everly Brothers. She has also released a video for the track "House on a Hill," filmed at the rustic, 18th-century cottage in the hills of the North Yorkshire Moors where she made the record. Watch it here. The Observer cites Chaney's "dazzling vocals" and calls Shelter "an elegant, luminous album." Uncut calls it "transcendent refuge from the storm." The Daily Mirror says it's "a triumph." Chaney performs in London on June 19; tickets are on sale now for her North American summer tour.
