    Chris Thile kicks off a US solo tour at Murray State University, the university he attended, in Kentucky tonight, followed by stops in Kalamazoo, Birmingham, Iowa City, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Charleston, and many other cities across the country, through November. In December, he joins his fellow Punch Brothers to resume their own US tour.

    The 42nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival kicks off in Telluride, Colorado, on Thursday and continues through the weekend to coincide with the summer solstice, with main-stage performances from Rhiannon Giddens, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer, and Ry Cooder; a FirstGrass set from Giddens tonight; and a closing NightGrass show from Punch Brothers on Sunday. The festival will stream live via KOTO.org

    Chris Thile will curate The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' American Strings: A Tradition of Innovation, a festival of performances, workshops, jam sessions, and panel discussions exploring the idea that tradition is innovation that lasts. American Strings will guide audiences from the origins fueling new traditions in American string music to the artistry and diverse styles in today’s creative landscape. The week-long survey, held June 20–26, 2016, in Washington, DC, will culminate in a star-studded performance with Chris Thile and the National Symphony Orchestra.

    Punch Brothers were the musical guests on Conan last night on TBS, performing "Magnet" from their new album, The Phosphorescent Blues. They were also the musical guest on a special episode of A Prairie Home Companion on Saturday, guest-hosted by none other than Chris Thile. Watch performances from both shows here.     Congratulations to John Adams, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer, all winners at the 57th Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles last night. Adams's City Noir won the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance for the St. Louis Symphony and conductor David Robertson, featuring saxophonist Timothy McAllister. Thile and Meyer's duo album, Bass & Mandolin, won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

    Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens, and the duo of Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer will be among the performers at the 42nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, taking place June 18–21, 2015, the weekend of the summer solstice. The preliminary lineup for the much-loved Colorado event was announced earlier today, just before the winter solstice. Among the other performers are Thile's fellow Punch Brother Noam Pikelny, who will perform with fiddler Stuart Duncan.​

    Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, announced earlier today by The Recording Academy: The Black Keys, Nickel Creek, Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer, John Adams, and Brad Mehldau. Together, these artists' Nonesuch releases have garnered a total of 11 nominations this year. The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on "Grammy Sunday," February 8, 2015, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS.

    Chris Thile has won the 2014 Outstanding Alumni in Fine Arts Award from Murray State University, his alma mater. “He is a model of artistry, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” said Dr. Pamela Wurgler, chair of Murray State's Department of Music. “Everyone wants to hear him perform; they want to hear his compositions too. He is an inspiring model for our students.” Thile’s parents accepted the award on his behalf at the school's A Taste of the Arts Dinner and Auction, which showcases performances by Murray State students and supports scholarships in art, music, and theatre.

    Chris Thile and Brad Mehldau begin a duo tour of Europe in Ludwigshafen, Germany, tonight, followed by stops in Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, France, Spain, and Ireland, where the tour comes to a close at Dublin's National Concert Hall on November 9. "Strictly speaking, mandolinist Chris Thile is a bluegrass musician and pianist Brad Mehldau is a jazz musician," says the Boston Globe. "But genre categories disappeared when the two met [in concert]."

The duo kicked off a North American tour this week in Vancouver.     Bass & Mandolin, the second recording collaboration by bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolinist Chris Thile, is out now. The album features ten original compositions by the two artists, who have been performing together sporadically for more than a decade and made their recording debut as a duo with 2008’s Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile, which the Washington Post praised, saying “Thile and Meyer are most enthralling when they pass a melody back and forth, fingers flying.” The duo embarks on a month-long North American tour on September 16.
