    The David Byrne–curated Meltdown festival gets under way at the Southbank Centre in London tonight, continuing through Sunday, August 30. Among Meltdown's many special events, Byrne and band celebrate African funk master William Onyeabor, he joins Young Jean Lee for the London debut of We’re Gonna Die, and Jonny Greenwood and LCO perform his score to There Will Be Blood at a screening of the film. BBC Radio 6 Music celebrates with a series of programs featuring Byrne, including his debut as a 6 Music presenter. "It’s a lot of fun when you do these kind of things you can introduce music," says Byrne, "and people will give you the benefit of the doubt and give it a listen which is a little bit of what’s it’s about."

    David Byrne is the guest on the latest episode of WTF with Marc Maron. "For many people, including Marc, David Byrne has served as a tour guide through a new frontier of creativity," says the show. "The frontman for Talking Heads sits down with Marc to talk about forming the preeminent new wave band of the 20th century and then branching out on his own to create work in theater, film, ballet, opera and, most recently, the world of competitive color guard performances."

    Congratulations to David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, which has been nominated for three Olivier Awards: Best New Musical, Outstanding Achievement in Music, and Best Theatre Choreographer for Annie-B Parson. The awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Opera House in London on April 12. The National Theatre production of Here Lies Love was met with great critical acclaim and won the 2014 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards' Beyond Theatre award for "pushing the boundaries of musicals."

    David Byrne will curate 2015’s Meltdown Festival at Southbank Centre in London, August 17–28. Previous directors include Laurie Anderson, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Ray Davies, and Ornette Coleman. "This is going to be exciting," says Byrne. "I plan to invite performers I've seen—and I do get out—and others I've missed or have dreamed of seeing." The line-up will be announced in the coming months.

    Contemporary Color, a performance event created by David Byrne inspired by the high school phenomenon of color guard, will be presented in Toronto and Brooklyn this June. Color guard teams from the US and Canada will perform alongside live performances from David Byrne, Nelly Furtado, How to Dress Well, Devonté Hynes, Kelis, Nico Muhly and Ira Glass, St. Vincent, tUnE-yArDs, and more. A co-commission by BAM and Luminato Festival, Contermporary Color promises audiences "the biggest glitter cannon show of your life."

    David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love has its official Opening Night at the National Theatre's Dorfman Theatre in London tonight. The reviews are in from last night's press night, bringing five stars in Time Out and the Daily Mail, which calls it "revolutionary," and four stars in the Independent, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, and the Times. Channel 4 News calls it "extraordinary" and spoke with Byrne in an interview you can watch here.

    David Byrne spoke with BBC Radio 6 Music's Radcliffe and Maconie earlier today in advance of tonight's press night of Here Lies Love, his musical with Fatboy Slim, at the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre in London. The production has been in previews there since late last month and has its official opening night tomorrow, October 14. He discusses the origins of the show and shares some clips from the original New York cast album, released earlier this year, and talks about some future plans. You can hear the interview here.

    David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, currently playing at NYC's Public Theater, opens in previews in London on Tuesday, September 30. The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. The official Opening Night is October 14. "I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well."

    David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's stage musical Here Lies Love will open in Sydney, Australia, in May 2015 as the theatrical centerpiece of the Vivid Festival. "Here Lies Love is unlike any musical previously staged in Australia," says Australian producer Rodney Rigby; "it is a transformative experience with unique and immersive staging by director Alex Timbers, where actors perform on platforms and moving catwalks, creating a club-like environment whilst forging a special relationship between the actors and the audience." Here Lies Love performances continue in NYC and open in London on September 30.

    The Remix Collection from "Here Lies Love", featuring reimaginings of the music from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s off-Broadway hit, is set for release September 30 on the Todomundo! label, available to preorder at A collection of 14 tracks remixed by Matt Stine and Justin Levine, all proceeds will be donated to Gawad Kalinga, a charity dedicated to typhoon relief and ending poverty in the Philippines for five million families by 2024. The album will also be available at Here Lies Love performances at The Public Theater in New York and Dorfman Theater in London.
