    Emmylou Harris, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dr. John, Dan Auerbach Perform on PBS Programs Showcasing Americana Music

    Emmylou Harris will be a familiar face and voice on PBS in the coming days, as she is among the artists featured on two programs showcasing Americana music airing this weekend: Nashville 2.0, exploring the vibrant Americana music scene, with interviews and performances from Harris, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and more; and Austin City Limits' special with highlights from the Americana Music Festival 2013, including performances from Harris with Rodney Crowell and Dr. John with Dan Auerbach.

    Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell Earn Americana Award for Duo of the Year, Album of the Year; Dr. John for Lifetime Achievement

    Congratulations to Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, who took home the Duo of the Year and Album of the Year awards for their album Old Yellow Moon at the Americana Music Association Honors & Awards ceremony last night at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and to Dr. John, who was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. You can listen to the show at folkalley.com. PBS's Austin City Limits will broadcast an edited special on November 23. Voice of America and Bob Harris of BBC2 will broadcast overseas in the following weeks.

    Dr. John and Allen Toussaint Awarded Honorary Degrees from Tulane University Along with Dalai Lama

    Dr. John and Allen Toussaint, two favorite sons of New Orleans, received honorary degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans at its 2013 Commencement held at the Superdome on Saturday. Both Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees received honorary doctor of fine arts degrees and performed together in a short set. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who delivered the keynote address at the event, received an honorary doctorate of humane letters. Natasha Trethewey, the US poet laureate and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, was awarded a doctor of humane letters.

    New Orleans Jazz Fest 2013 Kicks Off; Includes The Black Keys, Dr. John, Joshua Redman, Allen Toussaint

    The 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, aka Jazz Fest, gets under way today as the first of two consecutive weekends of music unfolds. Included among this weekend's performers are Joshua Redman with his Quartet and New Orleans native sons Dr. John and Allen Toussaint. The Black Keys help close out the festival next weekend. Also in New Orleans this weekend is Fatoumata Diawara, who performs at the House of Blues.

    Grammy Awards Go to The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach, Dr. John, Pat Metheny, Björk

    Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were presented with Grammy Awards at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night: The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach, Dr. John, Pat Metheny, and Björk. Together, these artists earned a total of seven awards, including three for The Black Keys. And congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for Grammy Awards this year, including Amadou & Mariam, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Ry Cooder, and Brad Mehldau. To celebrate, MP3 and FLAC editions of all this year's nominated albums are discounted this week.

    Dr. John and Allen Toussaint to Receive Honorary Degrees from Tulane University Along with Dalai Lama

Both will receive honorary doctor of fine arts degrees at the school's May 18 commencement ceremony, to be held at the Superdome in New Orleans. The Dalai Lama, who is set to deliver the keynote address at the event, will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.     New Orleans Jazz Fest 2013 to Include The Black Keys, Dr. John, Joshua Redman, Allen Toussaint

    The line-up for the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, aka Jazz Fest, has been announced, and among this year's performers are four artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: The Black Keys, Joshua Redman, and New Orleans legends and hometown heroes Dr. John and Allen Toussaint. Jazz Fest runs across two weekends, April 26–28 and May 2–5. The opening weekend includes sets from the Joshua Redman Quartet, Dr. John, and Toussaint; The Black Keys help close out the entire festival on Sunday, May 5.

    Dr. John released his Nonesuch Records debut album, Locked Down, in April 2012 to great critical acclaim and, more recently, numerous year-end-best accolades and a Grammy nomination for Best Blues Album. Locked Down was produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and features a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make the album. Dr. John and the band celebrated the album's release last spring with shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). The video of their BAM performance of the track "Ice Age" premiered on Rolling Stone last week. Watch it here.

    Nonesuch Artists Earn 14 Grammy Nominations, Including Five for The Black Keys

    Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, announced last night by The Recording Academy: The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach, Amadou & Mariam, Björk, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Ry Cooder, Dr. John, Brad Mehldau, and Pat Metheny. Together, these artists have garnered an astounding 14 nominations, including a remarkable five nominations for The Black Keys' latest album, El Camino. You can hear music from all the nominated albums on the new Nonesuch Radio channel "2012 Grammy Nominees."
