Emmylou Harris to Perform on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Following NYC Show with Levon Helm; Talks with A.V. Club

Emmylou Harris is the musical guest on tonight's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Tune in to see Harris and her band perform "New Orleans," off her latest Nonesuch release, Hard Bargain. Tonight's Late Night guests also include Justin Timberlake and Rose Byrne. The show airs at 12:35 AM ET on NBC.

Harris performed in New York's Central Park on a double bill with the legendary Levon Helm last night in an event to benefit the SummerStage series of free outdoor concerts. In addition to her own set, which featured songs from throughout her storied career, Harris joined Helm and his band for "Evangeline" and returned at the end of the show for a finale performance of The Band's "The Weight" with special guests David Bromberg, Joan Osborne, Tift Merrit, and Shawn Colvin. You can see photos from the event and a video of the finale at Brooklyn Vegan.

Harris recently spoke with the A.V. Club for an extensive interview in which she discusses, among other things, her new album, Hard Bargain; her many musical collaborations, not least with her mentor Gram Parsons, about whom she wrote the song "The Road" on the new album; her renown for interpreting other people's songs; and how she came to start recording predominantly her own music, starting with her 2000 Nonesuch debut album, Red Dirt Girl.

"Her voice has a mournful quality that reaches back before the West was won, a sound that’s come to the fore over the last couple of decades as she’s definitively departed from the land of fiddles and pedal steel," says the A.V. Club's Sam Adams.

"I didn’t come up with this all by myself, what I’ve been doing," Harris tells Adams. "It’s all people that you’ve met and experiences in your life that determine what comes out of your mouth and out of your heart."

Harris continues her US summer tour with a performance at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia, tomorrow night. For further details, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
