    k.d. lang Celebrates 50 in Advance of Australian Tour Launch

    Nonesuch Records wishes k.d. lang a very happy 50th birthday today. lang will celebrate in style, as she marks the special occasion with a rare concert performance in Singapore tonight. She and her band the Siss Boom Bang perform at the Esplanade in Singapore tonight in advance of their two-week tour of Australia featuring music from their new Nonesuch album, Sing it Loud, released earlier this year, as well as favorites from throughout lang's distinguished career.

    The Australian tour kicks off at the Swan Valley Sandalford Winery in Caversham, Western Australia, this Saturday, and includes stops in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Sydney, where lang and the Siss Boom Bang will play an astonishing six-night residency at the State Theatre. Tickets are sold out for the first five Sydney shows; a limited number are still available for November 20.

    She also spoke with the West Australian's Ray Purvis about the new album and Saturday's tour launch. "It's kind of more rock and up-tempo than my past records," lang says of Sing it Loud. "I'm wearing shoes on stage and playing a guitar like Elvis. It's nice to be able to sing this material because it engages the band and translates to the audience in a really fun way."     Joshua Redman, Brian Blade, Scott Colley, and Ron Miles, whose new album, Still Dreaming, was released in May, performed at Jazz in Marciac last year. They have now shared a video from that performance of the non-album track "Walls-Bridges"; you can watch it here. The band will tour North America this year with shows in Cleveland, Minneapolis, Iowa City, Newport, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and more to come. Another group of which Redman is a part, James Farm, will tour Europe in October.
