The Americana Music Association announced its nominations for the 15 annual Americana Honors & Awards last night, and among the nominees for Duo/Group of the Year are Lake Street Dive and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell.

Lake Street Dive made its Nonesuch Records debut with the release of its new album, Side Pony, earlier this year. Lake Street Dive—drummer Michael Calabrese, bassist Bridget Kearney, singer Rachael Price, and guitarist/trumpeter Michael "McDuck" Olson—worked with Nashville-based producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) on the album. "A band steeped in Motown Soul, Beatles melodies, and pop divas from Dusty Springfield to Adele," says Rolling Stone, "the retro vibe rules, vividly captured by producer Dave Cobb … pretty irresistible."

Emmylou HarrisRodney Crowell released their second duo album together, The Traveling Kind, on Nonesuch in 2015. Produced by Joe Henry, the album follows the longtime friends' first duet album, 2013's Old Yellow Moon, for which they won both the Grammy for Best Americana Album and the Americana Award for Duo of the Year and Album of the Year. "This is what it sounds like when true equals, both deep into their journeys, draw out the best in each other," said NPR of The Traveling Kind. Rolling Stone says: "Their creative partnership sounds stronger than ever."

The Americana Honors & Awards will return to the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 21, 2016, during AmericanaFest, the Americana Music Festival and Conference, which runs September 20–25, 2016. Jim Lauderdale will once again host the Honors & Awards, while Buddy Miller will lead the All-Star House Band. Tickets to the Honors & Awards show are only available with the purchase of an Americana Music Festival & Conference registration. "The beauty of song is you can spread information, you can make people feel not alone. And you can also create a time capsule for people in the future to know what we’re dealing with now," Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) tells KCRW's Press Play. You can hear it here. "The Troubadour: How Alynda Segarra, a former train-hopping punk from the Bronx, became one of America’s best songwriters," titles an extensive profile in New York magazine's Vulture on Segarra and their new album, The Past Is Still Alive, written by Jenn Pelly.
