Laurie Anderson brings her latest piece, Delusion, to Berkeley's Zellerbach Auditorium tonight and Saturday. It follows a performance at Stanford to which the San Francisco Chronicle gives its highest rating, describing Delusion as "one story, quip or rumination after another, to comic, provocative and deeply touching effect ... As much as Anderson's beguiling presence and creative mastery, it's the tension between its playful and somber sides that gives Delusion its poignant weight."

Laurie Anderson brings her latest piece, Delusion, to Zellerbach Auditorium at the University of California, Berkeley, tonight and Saturday night, following a performance at Stanford University's Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday to which the San Francisco Chronicle gives its highest rating.

In his review, Chronicle theater critic Robert Hurwitt, who spoke with Anderson for a feature profile published earlier this week, describes Delusion as "one story, quip or rumination after another, to comic, provocative and deeply touching effect. It's a concert, with Anderson's eloquent electric violin slipping from yearning folk to full-blast jazz dynamism ... And it's more packed with video imagery than any of her shows in a decade."

Hurwitt recognizes the death of Anderson's mother as "one of the most affecting elements" of the piece, concluding: "As much as Anderson's beguiling presence and creative mastery, it's the tension between its playful and somber sides that gives Delusion its poignant weight."
