Laurie Anderson recently spoke with Billboard magazine about her forthcoming Nonesuch release, Homeland, for an interview published there and by Reuters. "Co-produced by Lou Reed, her husband and longtime collaborator," the article explains, "the album is defined by Anderson's provocative politics and technological innovations."

In the interview, Anderson explains the long process behind the making of the new album—her first studio recording in almost a decade—and her writing process for it.

She also explains why she sought out remix collaborators for the album track "Only an Expert" online, via Indaba Music. "I spend so much time doing it myself," she says, "so I thought, 'This is kind of arbitrary. I wonder what other people would do with this.'" You can hear the results at indabamusic.com/remixla and vote for your favorite now through May 27.

Anderson goes on to discuss her new performance piece, Delusion, and the advantages of having a male alter ego, Fenway Bergamot, who can be heard on Homeland and seen featured on its cover. She also gives some clues as to what her role entail as Queen Mermaid, to Reed's King Neptune, at next month's Mermaid Parade on Coney Island in Brooklyn.

You'll find the interview at reuters.com. To pre-order a copy of Homeland, with the complete album MP3s included at no additional cost on release day, June 22, visit the Nonesuch Store.

"The beauty of song is you can spread information, you can make people feel not alone. And you can also create a time capsule for people in the future to know what we’re dealing with now," Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) tells KCRW's Press Play. You can hear it here. "The Troubadour: How Alynda Segarra, a former train-hopping punk from the Bronx, became one of America’s best songwriters," titles an extensive profile in New York magazine's Vulture on Segarra and their new album, The Past Is Still Alive, written by Jenn Pelly.
