Laurie Anderson's film Heart of a Dog was released in cinemas across the United States last year and in Ireland and the UK earlier this year to critical acclaim, with the New York Times including it among the year's best films and the Times of London calling it "a work of mastery: thought-provoking, smart and incredibly moving." The film will have its Italian cinematic release next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 13 and 14. Anderson—who is currently a juror at the Venice Film Festival—will preview the film in two screenings at Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan this Sunday, September 11, at which she will also perform; dogs are welcome. For this release, Anderson has dubbed the film into the Italian herself. Anderson was recently featured on the cover of D magazine from La Repubblica and spoke with IO Donna from Corriere della Sera about the film, an exhibition of her work now showing in Naples, and her role on the Venice Film Festival jury.

Anderson was commissioned by the European TV network Arte to create a feature film-her first in 30 years. Her response was the personal essay that is Heart of a Dog, a work encompassing joy and heartbreak, at the heart of which is a lament for her late beloved dog Lolabelle. You can watch the Italian film trailer below.

In addition to Anderson's inimitably thoughtful narration, Heart of a Dog includes musical excerpts from several of her pieces—"The Lake" and "Flow" from Homeland (2010), "Beautiful Pea Green Boat" from Bright Red (1994), "Rhumba Club" from Life on a String (2001), excerpts from Landfall (2011) with Kronos Quartet—as well as the film's closing song "Turning Time Around," written and performed by Anderson's late husband, Lou Reed.

The original cast album of Adam Guettel’s Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas, starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, will be released on CD on May 17, following its recent digital release.  “Repeated listenings compound the amazement,” the New York Times says of Guettel’s work, which “has always offered that kind of challenge—initially leaving a feeling of: Beautiful, but wait, I need to hear it again—and those up for it have a way of coming away shining like Moses down from the Mount. The new score has the same effect.”

The Staves’ new album, All Now, produced by John Congleton (Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen), is out now, marking their debut album as the duo of Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor, after their sister Emily’s departure. “There was a delayed reaction to trauma and these big changes out of your control,” Jess says of the period after the February 2021 release of their album Good Woman, as the band—like everyone—was forced to sit with their thoughts. Struggling after two years of deep solitude and pain, The Staves did what they know how to do best: they got back to writing with the idea of going back to basics and focusing almost solely on each other and their guitars as a starting point.
