    Laurie Anderson was celebrated at Joe's Pub's 2020 Vanguard Gala event back in February. That concert, in which artists and friends perform music from throughout her career, premiered last night as part of the Joe's Pub Live! From the Archives series and can be seen here. Under the music direction of Shara Nova (of My Brightest Diamond), the evening featured performances by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Carl Hancock Rux, Theo Bleckmann, Colin Stetson, Nona Hendryx, Christina Courtin, Joan as Police Woman, Meshell Ndegeocello, and many others.

    Laurie Anderson is a guest curator of the 2020 New Zealand Festival. The event began February 21 and continues in Wellington through March 15. Anderson, who performs at the festival this week, has programmed a symphonic concert, a virtual-reality experience, an improvisational ensemble, an interactive soundscape, a film screening, and a concert for dogs. Also at the festival are Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi, performing from their album there is no Other.

    Laurie Anderson and Terry Riley will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters when it holds its annual induction and award ceremony in mid-May, joining eleven other new members, including Carroll Dunham, Julian Schnabel, Edwidge Danticat, Mary Gaitskill, and Colson Whitehead. An exhibition of art, architecture, books, and manuscripts by new members and recipients of awards will be on view in the Academy's galleries in NYC from May 21 to June 21.

    Congratulations to Laurie Anderson, the 2020 recipient of The Vanguard Award & Residency at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in NYC. The program celebrates the work and influence of an icon of American popular culture. She will be honored at the third-annual Vanguard Gala on February 3, with an all-star slate of artists and friends, with musical direction by Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond and Chris Bruce, and her residency will take shape in a Sunday night performance each month, from March to December. "I love Sunday evening shows," Anderson says. "The end of the weekend is such a no man’s land—an interesting time to play with new combinations."

    Laurie Anderson will take part in five events in San Francisco as SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director this week, November 28–December 2. The residency includes a listening party and conversation, programs called Songs for Women and Songs for Men, a drone-based sonic installation with Lou Reed's guitars, and scenes from a radio play.
