Natalie Merchant will be joined by The School of Life Founder and philosopher Alain de Botton for an evening of conversation and music at Shoreditch Town Hall in London on Thursday, May 15. The two will discuss the inspirations for the songs on her new, self-titled album, due May 5 on Nonesuch Records, and Merchant will offer a selection of live musical illustrations. Merchant will perform two sold-out concerts in London in May and join fellow Nonesuch artists for a sold-out concert there later that month.

The new recording is the multi-platinum singer’s sixth solo collection, and her first of entirely original songs in 13 years; she describes the new release as informed "by experience and keen observation," dealing with issues of "love gained and lost, regret, denial, surrender, greed, destructiveness, defeat, and occasional triumph."     Following more than a dozen sold-out shows across the US this spring, Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) has announced a US summer tour. Beginning in early July, a new leg of headline dates will stop in cities that have yet to experience the live show of The Past Is Still Alive, the acclaimed album that has Vulture calling Segarra “one of America’s best songwriters." Upcoming performances also include Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Red Rocks debut and other amphitheater appearances with Norah Jones, as well as a homecoming set at New Orleans Jazz Festival, a return to NYC for a free concert in Battery Park, and more to be announced.
