    New Orleans Jazz Fest 2013 to Include The Black Keys, Dr. John, Joshua Redman, Allen Toussaint

    The line-up for the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, aka Jazz Fest, has been announced, and included among this year's performers are four artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: The Black Keys, Joshua Redman, and New Orleans legends and hometown heroes Dr. John and Allen Toussaint. Jazz Fest runs over five days across two weekends, April 26–28 and May 2–5. The opening weekend includes sets from the Joshua Redman Quartet and Dr. John, both on Friday, April 26, and Toussaint, on Saturday. The Black Keys help close out the entire festival with a performance on the last day of Jazz Fest 2013, Sunday, May 5. 

    Among the many other performers at this year's Jazz Fest are Phoenix, Frank Ocean, Patti Smith, Andrew Bird, Gipsy Kings, and several contributors to the 2005 Nonesuch Records benefit album Our New Orleans, including Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Irma Thomas. (Toussaint and Dr. John perform on the album as well). Watch the official announcement video listing this year's performers below.

    Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express will perform music from their album Junun as the opening act for Radiohead in select cities on the band's sold-out European tour: at the Spektrum in Oslo on June 6 and 7, Ericsson Globe in Stockholm on June 9, 3 Arena in Dublin on June 20, and Manchester Arena on July 4 and 5. Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express will also perform at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona on June 3 and Best Kept Secret in the Netherlands on June 18. The Times of London calls Junun "intriguing, sinuous, and essential listening."
