The Black Keys have been taking full advantage of the summer weather in the Southern Hemisphere of late, touring Australia while it's wintry cold back home in Akron. The summer swing comes to a close this weekend after concerts at Luna Park in Sydney tonight with Ash Grunwald, Gomez, and Dr. Dog; Waves at the Towradgi Beach Hotel further down the coast with Grunwald on Saturday; and the Palais Theatre in St. Kilda, Melbourne, with Gomez and Dr. Dog on Sunday. The Keys play several US dates starting the end of the month and into February before Dan plays a number of solo dates through March with the release of his album, Keep It Hid, on February 10.

---

Bill Frisell began his five-night residency at the famed Blue Note jazz club in New York City with bassist Ron Carter and drummer Paul Motian earlier this week. The three joined forces for an eponymous album on Nonesuch in 2006, leading The New Yorker to exclaim: “The all-star threesome performs like a seasoned band, and Frisell remains the only six-string poet of his generation.” Performances continue through Sunday.

---

At another Blue Note venue on the other side of the world, The Pat Metheny Group rounds out its tour of Japan with two nights at the Blue Note in Nagoya, tonight and Saturday. Both shows are sold out.

---

Mandy Patinkin's residency at the Duke of Yorks Theatre in London's West End, which began last night, continues through the weekend and until January 18. The performances, titled Mandy Patinkin in Concert, feature works by a range of celebrated songwriters and composers from Mandy's vast repertoire, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim to Harry Chapin.
