Laurie Anderson is the Artist in Focus at the Rewire Festival in The Hague in the Netherlands this weekend. Her program begins with a screening of her film Heart of a Dog at Korzo tonight. The Times of London says it's “a work of mastery: thought-provoking, smart, and incredibly moving”; Nonesuch released the complete film soundtrack recording. Saturday afternoon, Anderson joins The Wire’s deputy editor, Emily Bick, for an artist talk at Korzo, followed by a performance of her 1977 piece “Quartet for Sol” by the Dutch ensemble Ragazze Quartet. Anderson closes out the weekend with a multimedia presentation of her new book, All the Things I Lost in the Flood, at Grote Kerk Sunday night.

Both the new book and Landfall, Anderson's recently released album with Kronos Quartet, were inspired by her experience of Hurricane Sandy. "With a dream-like blend of electronics, acoustic instruments, high-tech software and voice overs," says NPR in a review of the album, "she searches for meaning in the mystery of it all."

David Byrne closes out the weeklong Mexican leg of his American Utopia world tour with a set at Centro Cultural Universitario’s Foro Alterno in Guadalajara on Saturday afternoon, as part of the Corona Capital Guadalajara festival. He begins the North American leg of the tour in California next week. Released last month, American Utopia debuted at No. 1 on the Top Album Chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200, the highest chart positions of Byrne’s career. “American Utopia is an album full of pulsating beats and rich textures,” says Stereogum. “The new album isn't a throwback; it feels like it could only exist right now.” Q says: “Byrne remains as playful and brilliant as ever.”
