Pianist Jeremy Denk performs two sonatas—Beethoven's Sonata in C Minor, Op. 111, No. 32, and Scriabin's Sonata Op. 68, No. 9—at recitals in two historic venues in the US Northeast this weekend: at the Mount Lebanon Shaker Village Tannery in New Lebanon, New York, on Saturday, and Park-McCullough House in North Bennington, Vermont, on Sunday afternoon. The latter event is the annual Gala concert for the Park-McCullough house, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

Denk recorded the Beethoven sonata for his 2012 Nonesuch Records debut album, Ligeti/Beethoven, which paired the piece with Ligeti’s Piano Études. "The result is dazzling," said the Observer. "The Ligeti is crisp, nuanced and technically flawless, the Beethoven beautifully shaped and flexible."

---

Rhiannon Giddens continues her North American tour featuring songs from her debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn, on both sides of the 49th parallel: at the Arvada Center Outdoor Amphitheater in Arvada, Colorado, on Saturday, and The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sunday afternoon as part of the weekend-long Interstellar Rodeo.

---

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell take their tour featuring music from their latest album, The Traveling Kind, to Göteborg, Sweden, tonight for the weekend-long Way Out West festival. Harris was in Sweden in June to receive the Polar Music Prize from King Carl XVI Gustaf at a ceremony in Stockholm. She and Crowell will take part in an intimate evening of music in New Orleans later this month to support New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.

---

Randy Newman is in Northern California to perform at Rodney Strong Vineyards in Healdsburg on Saturday. Newman was the subject of an appreciation by comedian David Elms in the Guardian earlier this week as part of its Comedy Heroes series. You can read the piece, titled "All comedians have a friend in Randy Newman," at theguardian.com. Newman will also perform an intimate concert to benefit New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity later this month.

As recently noted in the Nonesuch Journal, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, a core band featuring several of the original musicians from Buena Vista Social Club, kicked off a North American farewell "Adios" tour earlier this week. The tour, which follows the recent World Circuit release of Buena Vista Social Club’s Lost and Found, a new collection of previously unreleased tracks, continues with two stops in Northern California this weekend: Mountain Winery in Saratoga on Saturday and the Green Music Center's Weill Hall & Lawn in Rohnert Park at Sonoma State University on Sunday afternoon. The "Adios" tour includes extensive dates in the US and Canada through November 7.

---

Punch Brothers perform music from their new album, The Phosphorescent Blues, and more at Ocean Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Maryland, on Saturday as part of the Hot August Music Festival.

Beginning in early July, a new leg of headline dates will stop in cities that have yet to experience the live show of The Past Is Still Alive, the acclaimed album that has Vulture calling Segarra “one of America’s best songwriters."
