David Byrne and Punch Brothers take their tours to Southern California this weekend: Byrne's American Utopia is in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and Punch Brothers' All Ashore is in Los Angeles and San Diego. Across the country, Timo Andres gives a two-piano concert with David Kaplan at the Ravinia Festival outside Chicago.

David Byrne continues his American Utopia world tour in Southern California this weekend, with a sold-out show at Santa Barbara County Bowl tonight and a concert at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“It’s kind of a wonderful thing,” Byrne told the San Francisco Chronicle in a recent interview. “The utopia is happening right there onstage. In a way, we’re showing you other things happening.” You can read what else he had to say here.

Byrne also spoke with Monocle about the album and tour. “Nobody thinks about performance quite like David Byrne,” says the magazine. “Shunning the orthodox live-concert format, his latest touring spectacle has confirmed his status as a true original.” You can read the interview here.

Punch Brothers, currently touring the US with music from their new album, All Ashore, are in Southern California this weekend as well, playing the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles tonight and the Observatory at North Park in San Diego on Saturday.

While on tour, the band performed much of their new album and more at the House of Blues in Boston last month. The WGBH program Front Row Boston captured the full concert, which you can watch here.

Punch Brothers also stopped by MPR's The Current to perform songs from the album and discuss it with host Bill DeVille; you can listen to the session at thecurrent.org.

Timo Andres joins fellow pianist David Kaplan at the Ravinia Festival tonight, performing two-piano versions of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, at Bennett Gordon Hall in Highland Park, just north of Chicago.

Andres and Kaplan can be heard performing together on Andres’s Nonesuch Records debut album, Shy and Mighty.
