The Glass Box, the new 10-CD Nonesuch retrospective of works by Philip Glass, is recommended in The Republican, out of Western Massachusetts,  among "the more notable box sets ... that will likely make perfect presents for someone you're shopping for this season."

The paper's Kevin O'Hare, in his Playback blog, suggests that Glass's "swirling music has a way of seeping into one's dreams as much as the waking hours," and writes of the new collection: "Packaged as a cube box, and also containing a 191-page booklet, the retrospective is one of the most innovative of this year and certainly one of the most musically fascinating."

The composer has also announced the initial line-up for his annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, to be held on February 3. Slated to perform at the event, which benefits Tibet House US, are Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith, and The National. For more on the concert, visit carnegiehall.org.

The original cast album of Adam Guettel’s Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas, starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, will be released on CD on May 17, following its recent digital release.  “Repeated listenings compound the amazement,” the New York Times says of Guettel’s work, which “has always offered that kind of challenge—initially leaving a feeling of: Beautiful, but wait, I need to hear it again—and those up for it have a way of coming away shining like Moses down from the Mount. The new score has the same effect.”
