Rhiannon Giddens, who celebrates a birthday today, has announced an extensive tour of the United States this spring, including several new shows that go on sale this Friday, which also happens to be the day her new album, Freedom Highway, will be released on Nonesuch Records.

Following several intimate performances in the Northeast US in March with Dirk Powell, with whom she co-produced the new album, and a performance as part of a multi-artist tribute to Aretha Franklin at Carnegie Hall, Giddens heads to Europe for a two-week tour, then to Australia, where she joins Bonnie Raitt for two nights, headlines her own shows, and takes part in Byron Bay Bluesfest.

She returns to the United States in April to begin her spring and summer tour, starting at the Stagecoach festival in California on April 28. The tour includes headline shows throughout the country and festival sets at New Orleans Jazz Fest, Newport Folk, Newport Jazz, Spoleto, ROMP, and more. See below for all of the currently scheduled dates; for all the latest, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Freedom Highway is streaming till Friday as an NPR First Listen, which you can hear here. It's a "rich collection," says NPR's Ann Powers. "Hope comes back to life in Giddens' music." To reserve a copy of Freedom Highway, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl pre-orders include a download of the complete album on release day and a limited-edition print signed by Giddens.
