Wilco (the album) is out now, and Rolling Stone gives it four stars, calling the record "a triumph of determined simplicity by a band that has been running from the obvious for most of this decade ... But what is most striking about the restraint here is the elegance and defiance packed inside." The Associated Press says that, on the new album, "[Jeff] Tweedy exuberantly expresses his love of both rock music and its fans."

Wilco (the album) is out now, and Rolling Stone gives Wilco's seventh studio release four stars. Reviewer David Fricke calls the record "a triumph of determined simplicity by a band that has been running from the obvious for most of this decade ... But what is most striking about the restraint here is the elegance and defiance packed inside."

On an album that opens with "Wilco (the song)" and its promise that "Wilco will love you," Fricke points too to a different tune as evidence of a similar sentiment. "If Top 40 radio had any room for rock," he insists, "'I'll Fight' might be Wilco's breakthrough hit. Instead, it's just another great way to say they love you."

The Associated Press picks up this point as well, with writer Jake Coyle stating that, on the new album, "[Jeff] Tweedy exuberantly expresses his love of both rock music and its fans."

In an article that features an interview with both Tweedy and Glenn Kotche, Coyle chronicles the band's career and sums up their current state as "confident, relaxed and not afraid to, say, perform on the Tonight show dressed in country music-style sequin suits—as they did in a recent appearance."
