Last week saw the release of The Black Keys' latest Nonesuch album, Brothers, and the Akron, Ohio-bred duo, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, kept themselves busy performing songs from the new record at various venues in New York City, including a free show at the Classic Car Club, a benefit concert at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, and a spot on the Madison Square Garden stage opening for Pearl Jam. This week, the Keys add two more New York stages for the rest of the world to enjoy as well, performing on The Late Show with David Letterman Tuesday night, following guest Sarah Jessica Parker, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, after guests Jake Gyllenhaal and Mario Cantone.

In conjunction with the release of Brothers last Tuesday, the band launched the official music video for the album track "Tighten Up." It premiered on MySpace and is now making the rounds on the internet, including here at nonesuch.com/media and on the Nonesuch Records YouTube page.

The Speakeasy Blog at the Wall Street Journal has posted the video as well. "Like most people who have heard them," says the WSJ blog, "Speakeasy can’t get enough of the Black Keys." The site goes on to credit the duo and its "stripped down sound" with bringing "a needed sense of accountability back to rock music." Read more at wsj.com.

Consequences of Sound calls Brothers "brilliant" and the "Tighten Up" video "pretty much the greatest music video ever."

MTV's Buzzworthy Blog says "The Black Keys have been on a roll, people," calling Brothers "a stellar distillation of their superfried-blues powers." On the video front, "They also blew our minds a couple of weeks ago with a video of a toy dinosaur macking on bikini-clad gals for their song 'Next Girl.' Now comes the equally awesome clip for 'Tighten Up.'" There's more at buzzworthy.mtv.com.

Ambrose Akinmusire's Nonesuch debut album, Owl Song, featuring guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Herlin Riley, has received critical acclaim since its release in December, including being named among the year's best by the New York Times, Jazzwise, and the Irish Times, which says: "Akinmusire is a generational talent ... From the first notes of the opening title track you know you are in a place of great beauty." DownBeat says: "A quiet rush of gorgeous sound where space, tone and beauty come together in one of the most impactful albums of 2023 ... This is one of the most interesting recordings to come along in a very long time by one of the most interesting artists of our time." The Wall Street Journal says: "It sounds like a tiny, joyous celebration ... Gorgeous details abound." The Financial Times calls him "the standout trumpeter of his generation" and says: "The one-off ensemble becomes a heavenly match." Record Collector says: "Akinmusire opens a fresh chapter in his career with the quietly magnificent Owl Song, arguably his most accomplished recording yet."
