Laurie Anderson and Timo Andres spoke with Nonesuch Chairman Emeritus Bob Hurwitz for Ojai Music Festival's Virtual Ojai Talks, which you can watch here. The conversation centers on I Still Play, the 2020 album of new solo piano works by artists who have recorded for Nonesuch, written in honor of Hurwitz: Anderson, Andres, John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman. John Adams, the 2021 Music Director and conductor for the Ojai Music Festival, has announced featured artists for the 75th festival, June 10–13, 2021, including composer/pianist Timo Andres, who returns to Ojai to give the first live public performance of I Still Play, and Attacca Quartet, which makes its Ojai debut performing works by Caroline Shaw and others. Adams will conduct two concerts with works by Steve Reich, among others; his own work will be on programs by the LA Phil New Music Group and pianist Víkingur Ólafsson.

I Still Play, an album of eleven new solo piano compositions written by artists who have recorded for Nonesuch Records, is now available. The pieces were written in honor of the label's longtime President Bob Hurwitz on the occasion of his 2017 shift into the Chairman Emeritus role. This "all-star collection" (Financial Times) features works by John Adams, Laurie Anderson, Timo Andres, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman, performed by Andres, Mehldau, Newman, and Jeremy Denk. Composer/pianist Timo Andres was due to make his Carnegie Hall recital debut on April 29. The program was meant to feature several pieces from the new album I Still Play, out this Friday, and more. When the concert was canceled due to COVID-19, Andres filmed himself performing each piece on the program from home, and released the concert on YouTube the night it was meant to have taken place. Each of the I Still Play pieces is a little conversational gem, distilling an aspect of its author’s voice into a concentrated nugget."

Timo Andres was the first guest on a special Pirate Radio Edition of Living Music with Nadia Sirota, which took place from various homes via the show's Facebook page live. He performed "Wise Words," a piece he wrote for Nonesuch's own Bob Hurwitz, and Robin Holcomb's "Wherein Lies the Good," which she recorded on her 1996 Nonesuch album, Little Three. Both pieces were meant to be part of his Carnegie Hall recital debut in April, which was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
