Toronto Star television critic Rob Salem explains why The Wire, in its final season, "proves more than ever why it deserves a much wider audience." This season, the show looks inside the newsroom of the local paper as its reporting resources steadily decline—a depiction Salem says is spot on, with "a feel and a focus that is uniquely and resolutely its own."

Writes the longtime newspaper man:

I found it absolutely uncanny how accurately several scenes reflected exactly what is going in newsrooms today—this one included ... For a guy who's been out of the business for years, Simon's perspective on contemporary print journalism is quite unsettlingly accurate.
