"The most beautiful contribution came from Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan," says Die Welt in a review of the ceremony. "His song 'Lilac' floated like a lotus on clear water and led you to believe that jazz could have a golden future."

"You will find it difficult if not impossible to get this disc out of your machine for quite a while," raved the Buffalo News of Mockroot. "Don’t count on getting it out of your head for a long while either." To pick up a copy of the album, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store now.

Among the other winners at the ECHO Jazz 2016 Awards were James Farm, named International Ensemble of the Year for its second album, City Folk, and Brad Mehldau, who received a Sonderpreis ("special prize") for his box set 10 Years Solo Live.

The original cast album of Adam Guettel’s Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas, starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, will be released on CD on May 17, following its recent digital release.  “Repeated listenings compound the amazement,” the New York Times says of Guettel’s work, which “has always offered that kind of challenge—initially leaving a feeling of: Beautiful, but wait, I need to hear it again—and those up for it have a way of coming away shining like Moses down from the Mount. The new score has the same effect.”
