Uncut has just announced the nominees for the second-annual Uncut Music Award, which recognizes the "most inspiring and rewarding musical experience" of the year; on the list are Wilco and The Low Anthem. The latter can be seen performing in Paste's 20 Fantastic "Live from Paste" Videos in a set that, Paste says, "makes the case that this band may be the most sonically creative band of our generation."

Uncut magazine has just announced the nominees for the second-annual Uncut Music Award, which recognizes the "most inspiring and rewarding musical experience" of the year, and on the list are two Nonesuch artists: Wilco, for its seventh studio album, Wilco (the album); and The Low Anthem, for its Nonesuch debut, Oh My God Charlie Darwin.

"There has been a lot of brilliant music over the last year, as our long list of 25 albums vividly demonstrates," says Uncut editor Allan Jones. "Deciding which of them most merits winning the 2009 Uncut Music Award is going to be an exciting process, but no easy task."

A panel of judges—including Jones; Robin Pecknold of last year's winner, Fleet Foxes; previous Wilco collaborator Billy Bragg; and a number of other musicians and music industry professionals—will narrow down the initial nominess to a shortlist of eight, which will be announced in the magazine's November issue, available October 27. The winner will be revealed in the January 2010 issue, on sale November 24.

The Low Anthem can be seen performing three songs—"Cage the Song Bird" and "Home I'll Never Be" off Oh My God Charlie Darwin, plus their song "This God Damned House"—in Paste magazine's online collection of 20 Fantastic "Live from Paste" Videos.

"One listen to Oh My God, Charlie Darwin was plenty evidence that this band is innovative," says Paste's Kevin Keller. "But, the live performance makes the case that this band may be the most sonically creative band of our generation." Keller even goes so far as to say that one element of the performances produces "one of the most haunting sounds I've ever heard."
