Carolina Chocolate Drops
The North Carolina–based trio Carolina Chocolate Drops are a young string band in the centuries-old Piedmont banjo and fiddle musical tradition. The group’s members—Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens, and Hubby Jenkins—all trade duties as singers and swap instruments, too. The band released its Grammy-winning Nonesuch debut, Genuine Negro Jig, in early 2010 and a follow-up EP with New York–based gypsy punk band Luminescent Orchestrii in 2011. Carolina Chocolate Drops' as-yet-untitled new album, produced by Buddy Miler, is due for release in early 2012.
