Barbican to Present "Junun" in Concert with Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, The Rajasthan Express on March 11

Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, who came together in Jodhpur, India, last year to record the album Junun, will reunite to perform the album in its entirety in the UK for the first time, at Barbican Hall in London on March 11, 2016. Tickets go on sale to Barbican members on Thursday, January 14, and to the general public on Friday, January 15.

Junun, the new album from Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, was released on Friday to critical acclaim. Also on Friday came the release on iTunes of Paul Thomas Anderson's film of the same name, which documents the recording of the album. Now comes an outtake from the film featuring the group's performance of the album track "Hu." The Observer, which gives the album four stars, says "the hypnotic 'Hu' locks into an almighty groove." Today marks the release of Junun, the new album from composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur, guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, a group of Indian musicians. Recorded earlier this year in a makeshift studio inside the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India, the album was made with Radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich. The album comprises Ben Tzur’s compositions, which feature devotional Sufi qawwal musicians who sing in Urdu as well as in his native Hebrew. "One of the most inspired releases of the year," exclaims the Sunday Times of London. "Intriguing, sinuous, and essential listening." Nonesuch Records releases Junun—an album from composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur, guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, a group of Indian musicians—on November 20, 2015. Recorded in a makeshift studio inside the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India, the album was made with Radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich. It features Ben Tzur's compositions, which combine ecstatic, devotional Sufi qawwal musical traditions and his native Hebrew. Following its October 8 opening at the New York Film Festival, Paul Thomas Anderson's new film, Junun, will have its exclusive worldwide premiere on MUBI on October 9. Anderson joined Jonny Greenwood and Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur on a trip to Rajasthan, India, where Greenwood (with the Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich) and a group of musicians from across the Indian sub-continent worked on an album to be released by Nonesuch in November. Additional details on the album will be announced shortly.
