  • On this vinyl album, mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile performs two Bach works written for solo violin: Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001 and Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002. "His timing is meticulous," says The New Yorker, "but his version also has the liveliness that improvising musicians sometimes can bring to written material." Gramophone exclaims: "This is extraordinary playing from an extraordinary musician who is willing to stretch stylistic and technical boundaries to further his art while paying homage to one of the greatest composers of all time." The album, produced by Edgar Meyer, was pressed on a single disc in 140-gram vinyl at Pallas.

  • Sleep with One Eye Open, the debut album from mandolin-virtuoso Chris Thile and guitar maven Michael Daves, was recorded live to tape over four days at Jack White’s Third Man studio in Nashville. The album is a collection of 16 traditional tunes by bluegrass legends like The Monroe Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, Jimmy Martin, and Flatt & Scruggs. The duo makes for "a rip-roaring partnership," says the New York Times. "Bluegrass, in their hands, gets roughed up in the best possible way, with skill and fervor, and a touch of abandon." Nonesuch Store orders include the bonus download "Sophronie."

  • Double-bassist Meyer and Punch Brothers mandolin player Thile, both Grammy Award–winning virtuosos, incorporate bluegrass, folk, country, and classical elements into this musical tête-à-tête, recorded at Meyer's Nashville studio. It has the pedigree of a superstar session but feels like a conversation between friends.
