The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, will present a selection of free public programs in conjunction with Laurie Anderson: The Weather (on view through July 31), the largest-ever US exhibition of Anderson's artwork. From late February through July, the Hirshhorn will present performances by Anderson, artist talks, and film screenings. Programs will be held at the Hirshhorn, at partnering DC venues, and online. “I’m so happy to be working with the Hirshhorn and grateful to be able to expand the exhibition into music, performance, and events,” she said. “In many ways, my subject has always been America, and it’s been exciting to get a chance to present my stories in the most symbolic center of power: the nation’s capital—especially in these watershed times."

"I tried to create, over these six talks, something that would be useful to you, a kind of portable philosophy," Anderson says in her introduction. "And you can tell me if that worked at all." You can watch it all here.

"Laurie Anderson Has a Message for Us Humans," Sam Anderson's New York Times Magazine feature on Laurie Anderson in last week's issue of the magazine, is today's episode of The Sunday Read from the Times podcast The Daily. Before reading his article, the writer conveys five questions Laurie Anderson had shared with him, "a sort of test that uses to figure out whether a piece that she's working on is good or not ... 'Is it complicated enough? Is it simple enough? Is it crazy enough? Is it beautiful enough? And finally, Is it stupid enough?' And I thought that was kind of a great criteria for proceeding with life, with whatever you are doing."
