    Tune in to KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic today to hear the Black Keys perform tracks from their album, Brothers, which host Jason Bentley rated No. 1 on his Top Albums of 2010. The album comes in at No. 7 on TIME's Top 10 Albums of the Year; the magazine calls it "a classic, unmuddled rock-'n'-roll record." The New York Post places Brothers, an album "filled with ear-candy," at No. 6 in his Top Ten Albums of the Year. Watch a video for the album track "Everlasting Light" here.

    Ben Folds and Nick Hornby will appear today on WNYC's Soundcheck. The pair will discuss their songwriting collaboration on their new release, Lonely Avenue, and Folds will perform live. Tune in at 2 PM ET on 93.9 FM or listen online at wnyc.org. The pair performed last night as part of SPIN magazine's Liner Notes series at a benefit for the Housing Works AIDS Charity in New York City. Folds and Hornby continue their New York appearances with a performance on Thursday evening at Barnes & Noble's Union Square location for the series Upstairs at the Square.

    UK internet sensation Charlie McDonnell offers a video of Ben Folds and Nick Hornby's song, "Saskia Hamilton" from the album Lonely Avenue. Time Magazine spoke with Folds and Hornby about the project and tracks "the beauty of Lonely Avenue," back to the special pairing of the English novelist with the American singer-songwriter.

    Metacritic.com has released its mid-year report of "The Best Music of 2010 So Far"—and three Nonesuch releases have made the cut: Ali Farka Touré's collaboration with kora player Toumani Diabaté came in at #2, and Laurie Anderson's first studio album since 2001, Homeland, followed it at #3. The Black Keys recent album, Brothers, followed up at #27. John Schaefer of WNYC's Soundcheck picks Anderson's Homeland, Ali and Toumani, and Timothy Andres' Shy and Mighty as his best of the year so far.

    Today was election day in the Philippines, with Benigno Aquino in the lead for President. Imelda Marcos, the country's former First Lady, is up for congress and spoke with BBC News in an interview the BBC set to songs from the David Byrne / Fatboy Slim song cycle on her life, Here Lies Love. The album also features Aquino's father, whom Imelda once dated and who was imprisoned for his opposition to the Marcos regime.

    Charlie Gillett, the BBC Radio 3 and BBC World Service presenter, has died, after a long illness, at the age of 68. Gillett was an ardent and longtime champion of many Nonesuch artists, helping to bring world music performers like Youssou N'Dour and Rokia Traoré to a wider audience. Traoré will appear on the BBC World Service program The Strand tonight to remember Gillett and reflect on his legacy.

    Nonesuch Records and PS Classics will record the cast album of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A Little Night Music on January 4, 2010. The production, which opens on December 13, 2009, at the Walter Kerr Theatre, stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angela Lansbury, and Alexander Hanson. Directed by Trevor Nunn, it is the first revival of the show since its 1973 debut. Tommy Krasker will produce the album.

    Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau will perform together at the official National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington, DC, this evening starting at 5 PM EST, joining fellow performers Sheryl Crow, Common, Jordan Sparks, and Ray LaMontagne, as well as President Obama and his family. The whole ceremony will be streamed live online and will be broadcast on PBS stations across the country tomorrow night.

    Alfred McMoore, the Akron artist who inspired Dan Auerbach and Pat Carney to choose The Black Keys as their band name, died last Friday at the age of 59. Pat's father, Jim Carney, a staff writer at the Akron Beacon Journal, has written a beautiful remembrance of the "outsider" artist he came to know as a friend. "There was no way to resist Alfred McMoore," writes Carney.
