Dave Malloy's "Octet" Nominated for Eight Drama Desk Awards, Earns Special Ensemble Award

Congratulations to Dave Malloy and to the cast and creative team of Octet, which has been nominated for eight Drama Desk Awards and has earned a special Ensemble Award.

Octet, in its Signature Theatre world premiere production, has been nominated for Outstanding Musical; Malloy for Outstanding Music, Lyrics, and Book of a Musical, and, with Or Matias, for Orchestrations; Annie Tippe for Outstanding Director of a Musical; Amy Rubin and Brittany Vasta for Outstanding Scenic Design for a Musical; and Hidenori Nakajo for Outstanding Sound Design for a Musical.

The Ensemble Award goes, per the Drama Desk citation, "the eight pitch-perfect performers in Dave Malloy’s a cappella musical Octet: Adam Bashian, Kim Blanck, Starr Busby, Alex Gibson, Justin Gregory Lopez, J.D. Mollison, Margo Seibert, and Kuhoo Verma proved instrumental in giving a layered look at modern forms of addiction."

The original cast recording for Octet was released on Nonesuch Records earlier this year and may be purchased at your local music shop's webstore, Amazon, Bandcamp, and the Nonesuch Store; it also available on iTunes and streaming at Spotify and Apple Music.

The 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony will take place digitally on May 31. The awards honor outstanding achievement by professional theater artists on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. The Drama Desk Awards are voted on and bestowed by theater critics, journalists, editors, publishers and broadcasters covering theater.
