David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, currently playing at NYC's Public Theater, opens in previews in London on Tuesday, September 30. The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. The official Opening Night is October 14. "I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well."

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, currently playing at the Public Theater in New York City, opens in previews in London tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 30. The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. The official Opening Night is October 14, and performances are scheduled to run through January 8, 2015.

As with the New York production, the building will be turned into a dance club with lights, sound, and drink, reflecting former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos's love for disco and club music served as the inspiration for the musical. Here Lies Love tells Marcos's story, retracing her meteoric rise to power and subsequent descent into infamy and disgrace at the end of the People Power Revolution. Alex Timbers, director of the New York production, will helm the London production as well.

"I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well. There will be seats on a balcony we’ll construct, but I recommend getting on the dance floor with the crowd (and some of the actors)."

Here Lies Love premiered at New York’s Public Theater in April of last year, was extended four times, and returned to the Public this past spring; for tickets to the New York production, click here. It was recently announced that the musical will head to Sydney, Australia, in May; for details, click here.

Nonesuch Records released the original cast album earlier this year and an all-star album of songs from Here Lies Love in 2010. To pick up copies of both, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout. To coincide with the London opening, Byrne releases a Here Lies Love remix collection tomorrow via the Todomundo label.

The twenty-seven disc box set Steve Reich Collected Works is due March 14, 2025, on Nonesuch. It features music recorded during the composer's forty years on the label—six decades of his compositions, including first recordings of his two latest works, Jacob’s Ladder and Traveler’s Prayer—plus two extensive booklets with new essays by Robert Hurwitz, Michael Tilson Thomas, Russell Hartenberger, Judith Sherman, and Nico Muhly, and a comprehensive listener’s guide by Timo Andres. Nonesuch made its first record with Steve Reich in 1985; he was signed exclusively to the label that year. Collected Works includes twenty-four discs of Nonesuch recordings and three from other labels.
