Guitarist Jeff Parker shares a cover of John Coltrane’s composition “Miles’ Mode” in celebration of Coltrane’s 100th birthday. Parker is joined by Chris Speed (The Bad Plus) on tenor saxophone, Kaveh Rastegar (Kneebody) on electric bass, and Aaron Steele (Chrome Sparks) on drums for this recording. Parker says: “John Coltrane has been a steady muse for me ever since I started to study his music at a young age. It’s an honor to pay tribute to him on the occasion of his centennial with three of my favorite musicians from the Los Angeles music community.” Additionally, a limited-edition color vinyl reissue of Parker’s Suite for Max Brown, his 2020 album that features a Coltrane cover, “After the Rain,” is available October 23, available to pre-order now.

Parker says: “John Coltrane has been a steady muse for me ever since I started to study his music at a young age. It’s an honor to pay tribute to him on the occasion of his centennial with three of my favorite musicians from the Los Angeles music community.”

This release follows Parker’s critically-acclaimed album with his ETA IVtet Happy Today, which was released by International Anthem & Nonesuch Records in May. In a Pitchfork profile of Parker, Grayson Haver Currin writes of Happy Today: “With the rhythmic elasticity of a beat tape and the tonal splendor of almost everything he has ever done, it is a 44-minute synthesis of Parker’s last six decades.”

The record’s accompanying album-length concert film was captured by director Charlie Weinmann at the 2025 performance at Los Angeles’s Lodge Room that became Happy Today. Watch the concert film here:

Additionally, a limited-edition color vinyl reissue of Parker’s Suite for Max Brown, his 2020 album that features a Coltrane cover, “After the Rain,” is available October 23; you can pre-order it here. Suite for Max Brown received “Best New Music” honors from Pitchfork, as did Parker’s albums Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy (2022), and The Way Out of Easy (2024). His 2021 solo guitar album, Forfolks, was included in Pitchfork’s “Best Albums of the Year.”

Parker has also performed twice at NPR's Tiny Desk in the last two years, first with ETA IVtet in 2025 for a performance NPR named one of the best Tiny Desks of the year, and with Flea and the Honora Band in 2026. Flea, who tapped Parker as a key collaborator for his debut album Honora and the subsequent world tour with the Honora Band (also including Anna Butterss and Josh Johnson), describes the depth of Parker's playing this way: “there’s this river of music inside of Jeff—all the stillness and the violence and the chaos and the absolute ethereal beauty that he can bring to music through his playing. It’s just all there.”

Robert Plant’s Saving Grace: All That Glitters... is now available digitally. The EP, previously released on vinyl for Record Store Day, follows Plant’s 2025 critically acclaimed album, Saving Grace; both feature singer Suzi Dian and a band of musicians from the English countryside that Plant calls home. The EP’s four tracks further explore the folk and Americana songs that Plant and the band love: the traditional tunes “The Blackest Crow” and “Two Coats,” Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl,” and Bert Jansch’s “Poison.” The video for "The Blackest Crow," made by Saving Grace cellist Barney Morse-Brown, may be seen here. Plant and the band are now touring the US.

Rhiannon Giddens’s album Hope Is the Thing with Feathers was inspired by the beauty of people coming together and drawing strength from each other. It was intentionally recorded live with no frills and few overdubs, just pure and essential music that captures the feeling of community, clarity, as well as the joy and power of creating together. A video for the title track, capturing the creation of the album cover artwork by Uzoma Samuel Anyanwu, is also out now; you can watch it here.
