Pianist Jeremy Denk was on BBC Radio 3's Music Matters on Saturday to talk with presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch ahead of his performance of the complete Bach Partitas at Wigmore Hall in London that night. "Inevitably when I practice, I don't say that I'm doing this, but I kind of take the piece apart and ask myself why every part is there," Denk says. "You don't want to say you're going into the mind of the composer, but you do a little bit. And then I like to feel that every part is justified, that I can make sense of it for myself." You can hear their conversation here.

Jeremy Denk was on CBS Sunday Morning to discuss his new book, Every Good Boy Does Fine, out this Tuesday on Random House. The book is "a performer's love song to the craft of the thing piano students usually hate: practice," says correspondent John Dickerson. You can watch their conversation here. Denk tells the New York Times: "I enjoy art that antagonizes you, and then, slowly, in an emotional striptease, reveals a gooey, loving center." Also on CBS Sunday Morning was Mandy Patinkin, to discuss Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George.

Jeremy Denk will publish a memoir, Every Good Boy Does Fine, via Random House on February 22. In the book, Denk traces his implausible artistic journey and sets out to relay the most meaningful lessons he has received, and to repay the debt of all his teachers. “The performer has two tasks,” he writes. “One is to do what’s written in the score—incredibly important—and the other, even more important, is to do everything that’s not.”

Jeremy Denk’s Mozart Piano Concertos is now available on Nonesuch Records. Denk is joined by The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for two Mozart concertos—No. 25 in C Major, K. 503 and No. 20 in D minor, K. 466—bookending the composer’s solo Rondo in A minor, K. 511. "Denk approaches everything with questing intelligence and energy," says the Observer. "His ornaments and cadenzas are full of wit and imagination, his ear for detail incisive and bracing. The excellent Saint Paul players match his variety and range of expression. As ever, Denk’s probing liner notes shed light, making an already engrossing album more than worth the purchase.”

Jeremy Denk is on 30 Bach: The Goldberg Variations Podcast. Denk, who recorded the Goldberg Variations for Nonesuch in 2013, takes part in a discussion of the episode's focus, Variation 25, led by host Lowry Yankwich, who says: “Amidst the exuberance, love, and joy of the final variations, Variation 25 is what makes the Goldbergs honest. It’s the dark center of the piece, the 'black pearl.'" The episode closes with Denk performing the variation. You can hear it here. Denk recently performed Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1, in a Cal Performances livestream; it's available to watch again through July 14.
