Various_thewire_lg_2 Whether you're a die-hard fan of HBO's acclaimed series The Wire or curious about all the buzz, MSNBC contributor and Variety managing editor Stuart Levine says everyone should tune in to the final season's debut episode this Sunday. "Oh, and by the way," he writes,

it's the best show in the history of television. In case you read over that sentence quickly and didn't allow it to sink in, let me write it again to make sure it received your full attention: The Wire is the best show that has ever been on TV. Bold statement? Absolutely. Yet, The Wire backs it up.

For folks new to the series, Levine also offers a primer on the the cops, the crooks, and the politicians, who've made up the show's cast of characters, as well as the newsmen who will be featured in the upcoming season, which, he says, is "must-see viewing."

Levine says that the writing and acting that goes into the show "feel so authentic, so believable, that it's impossible not to feel connected."
