Kronos Quartet began its summer tour of Europe earlier this week with a performance in Cartagena, Spain, featuring the Alim Qasimov Ensemble, which appears on the Quartet's latest Nonesuch release, Floodplain. Last night, Kronos joined Philip Glass at the Zitadelle Spandau in Berlin for the first of several dates performing the composer's score to the classic Bela Lugosi film Dracula to screenings of the film. Performances continue at Filmnächte am Elbufer in Dresden on Saturday.

As noted earlier today in the Nonesuch Journal, Sunday marks the close of Columbia, Missouri's first annual Mizzou New Music Summer Festival, a part of the University of Missouri's New Music Initiative.  Held on the university's campus, the final day of the festival features new compositions from selected composers, chosen through an application process, which will be performed by the festival's resident ensemble, Alarm Will Sound

Laurie Anderson plays the fourth and final concert in her tour titled Another Day in America: Songs from the album "Homeland" & other stories tour, featuring songs from her recently released Nonesuch album Homeland. She performs at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, tonight. Anderson will sign copies of Homeland at the Other Music shop in downtown New York City next Wednesday. The Washington Post says that among all of Anderson's albums, this latest is "one of her best."

The Carolina Chocolate Drops appear Sunday at Cathedral Square Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as part of the Radio Summer Camp Backyard BBQ. It marks the group's final North American performance before traveling overseas for a brief European tour. The free, all-day outdoor concert will feature various country, bluegrass, blues, and roots-leaning music as well as food from local Milwaukee restaurants.

Shawn Colvin appears Saturday at the sixth annual Targhee Music Festival, performing at the Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, Wyoming, alongside such artists as Los Lobos and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals.

Ben Folds is the special guest of the Utah Symphony, led by conductor David Cho, for a performance at the Deer Valley Music Festival at Salt Lake City's Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater on Saturday. The Symphony promises a performance that "will prove what a great rock band the orchestra can be!" The Salt Lake Tribune spoke to Folds in advance of the event; you can read the interview at sltrib.com.

Emmylou Harris concludes her run of Lilith Fair performances at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater outside of St. Louis, Missouri, tonight. On Sunday, she leaves her Lilith Fair tour partners to perform at the Stiefel Theatre in Salina, Kansas.

Marlboro Music's 60th concert season gets under way this weekend. The annual summer music program, led by Artistic Directors Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida, presents its Opening Weekend performances, including a free concert tonight for local residents and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon shows open to the public, in Persons Auditorium at Marlboro College in Marlboro, Vermont. The 29th annual Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival—the ten-day festival in Lockenhaus, Austria, led by Gidon Kremer, comes to a close this weekend with continued performances from Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica through Sunday. The theme of this year's festival is Music and Power: The Power of Music.

The Low Anthem kicks off its summer tour this weekend, starting three weeks of shows along the US East Coast, from Virginia to Vermont, with a Sunday set at the Green River Festival in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Also performing at the festival this weekend are Allen Toussaint, Cake, Calexico, The Felice Brothers, and many others. The Providence-based quartet heads back to its hometown to headline a benefit concert for Congressional candidate David Segal at Firehouse 13 in Providence on Monday.

Following her recent run in 110 in the Shade at the Hale Center Theater in Orem, Utah, Audra McDonald makes her Tanglewood debut Sunday night at Seiji Ozawa Hall in Lenox, Massachusetts. The program, titled A New American Songbook, features a mix of standards and songs written for McDonald by today's finest music theater composers.

Following last night's stellar performance, Natalie Merchant continues her two-night run at The Town Hall in New York City tonight. On Sunday, she brings the music of her recent Nonesuch debut album, Leave Your Sleep, and favorites from throughout her career to Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. The Pat Metheny Group continues its summer tour of Europe with one of several performances in Italy tonight at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. The tour continues through next weekend. The Guardian gives four stars to the Group's recent performance at the Barbican, calling Metheny "the king of the jazz circuit" and this ensemble his "hottest ticket."

Punch Brothers play two shows in Michigan this weekend, first at The Intersection in Grand Rapids tonight, and then at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen Saturday night. The latter concert also features a performance from the legendary Loudon Wainwright III. Prior to tonight's performance in Grand Rapids, Punch Brothers stop by the studios of local independent radio station WYCE, 88.1 FM, to perform songs from their latest Nonesuch release, Antifogmatic, today at 2 PM. Joshua Redman's tour of the European festival circuit brings him and his Double Trio, featuring Matt Penman, Reuben Rogers, Gregory Hutchinson, and Bill Stewart, to Valletta, Malta, for a performance in the city's Grand Harbour tonight as part of the Malta Jazz Festival, and then to Dinant, Belgium, for the Dinant Jazz Nights Festival on Saturday. Redman used the double trio format to great effect on his most recent Nonesuch album, Compass.
