This Memorial Day long weekend in the US, drummer, producer, sonic collagist, and this season's SFJAZZ resident artistic director Makaya McCraven continues his four-night residency at SFJAZZ’s Miner Auditorium in San Francisco, tonight, Saturday, and Sunday. A live stream of tonight’s show is available to watch here. His new two-disc, four-EP compilation, Off the Record, was released last year. McCraven was recently named one of the 2026 Doris Duke Awards recipients. "A leading voice in contemporary jazz," says the award citation, "he is acclaimed for transforming live improvisations into meticulously edited soundscapes that push the boundaries of the genre."

Classical singer Julia Bullock performs in the finale of the 2026 May Festival, of which she is the director, joining the May Festival Chorus, conducted by Anthony Parnther at The Geraldine V. Chavez Center for the Choral Arts’ Music Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday. The festival’s finale program includes selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and works by Bernstein, Handel, and more. Bullock’s solo debut album, Walking in the Dark, was released on Nonesuch in 2022 and won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.

Flea and the Honora Band—saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss, and drummer Deantoni Parks—continue their European tour in support of Flea’s debut solo album, Honora, at Paradiso in Amsterdam tonight and Concert Hall in Antwerp, Belgium for Jazz Middelheim. Their sold-out international tour continues this month in London and Paris. All of the artists in the band perform on the album, which Johnson also produced.

Cécile McLorin Salvant and her band—pianist Sullivan Fortner, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Kyle Poole—are also at Jazz Middelheim, performing at the Concert Hall in Antwerp on Saturday, before heading to LNDT in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Sunday for Vilnius Mama Jazz Festival, and Manggha Center in Kraków, Poland, on Monday for Kraków Jazz Festival. Salvant’s new album With Every Breath I Take, her first with orchestra, featuring The Netherlands’ Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, is due June 26. Rhiannon Giddens performs at St Mary's Cathedral in Limerick, Ireland, tonight for the Limerick School of Music Gala Fundraising Concert. She is joined by Francesco Turrisi for a performance at De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on Sunday. Earlier this month, Giddens announced a European autumn tour, with stops in Groningen, Antwerp, Utrecht, Paris, Luxembourg, Manchester, Dublin, Belfast, Hamburg, London, Edinburgh, and Gateshead.

Guitarist Mary Halvorson and her band Canis Major conclude their European tour, performing at Lithuanian National Drama Theater in Vilnius, Lithuania, tonight; Jazz Cerkno in Cerkno, Slovenia on Saturday; and Park Lužánky in Brno, Czechia, on Sunday for PonavaFest. The Jazz Journalists Association has nominated Halvorson for five JJA Jazz Awards: Jazz Musician of the Year, Composer of the Year, Guitarist of the Year, Midsize Ensemble of the Year (Amaryllis), and Duo of the Year (with Sylvie Courvoisier). Emmylou Harris concludes the spring leg of her European farewell tour in the Netherlands, performing at De Oosterpoort in Groningen on Saturday and Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on Sunday. Uncut, reviewing this week's performance at Albert Hall, concludes: "Unforgettable, all of it." The Arts Desk says: "It was a memorable evening, Emmylou and her excellent five-piece still hot, if no longer The Hot Band, and the audience would have let her sing all night." She returns to Europe in August, performing in Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm, Brussels, Antwerp, and Monheim am Rhein.

Haitian American singer and composer Nathalie Joachim joins the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Christopher Rountree, at David Geffen Hall in New York City tonight for the world premiere of her piece Le présent éternel. The work, a New York Philharmonic commission, reimagines, reframes, and reinterprets music of Caribbean, American, and Pan-African freedom movements.

Robert Plant and Saving Grace conclude their South American tour in support of their album Saving Grace at Parque Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday for C6 Fest. The band travels to Europe this summer, performing in Croatia, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Greece. Punch Brothers continue their 64-city North American tour—their most extensive tour since 2019—performing on the Grandstand Stage at Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, Maryland, tonight for DelFest; Greenfield Lake Amphitheatre in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday; and College of Charleston’s Cistern Yard in Charleston, South Carolina, on Sunday for Spoleto Festival. Their upcoming instrumental album, The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, is due July 24. Composer Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered is performed by Borealis Chamber Artists at The College of St. Scholastica’s Mitchell Auditorium in Duluth, Minnesota, on Saturday. The piece, with a libretto by Nathaniel Bellows, is a celebration of, and an elegy for, the natural world—animals, plants, insects, the planet itself—an appeal for greater awareness, urgency, and action. Its first recording, featuring the English vocal ensemble Gallicantus conducted by Gabriel Crouch, was released on New Amsterdam / Nonesuch Records in 2020.
